As I have stated previously, if you have a home based business, more than likely you are promoting your own product, idea, service, or someone else’s product, idea or service through affiliate or network marketing.

Formulating the plan to begin to raise interest and hopefully sales through your home based business can take many directions. Unfortunately many of those directions can lead to absolutely nowhere in quick order.

WordPress is truly a excellent system to use and work with  even in its’ most basic version.  I First started out on 1.6.  However upgrades are available now up to 2.6.  Were you able to set WordPress up on your domain?  If so congratulations.

For the most part everything recommended on this site will have instructions and even usage details, but sometimes it’s still not clear even after reading it several times.  Most of the time it makes far more sense after you have followed each step.  Back to blogging software….

WordPress.com is for the blogger to really disseminate information.  They give direction and education, entertainment, gossip and the like here on this shared hosting site.  You are unable to charge a fee or market affiliate products on these sites.  That being said it not a bad idea to hold an account there and at least point toward blog-posts on your .org sites.  It a great place to start and get the feel of how it works.  Don’t like what you wrote, delete it!  The site are hosted by wordpress.com and no domain is needed.  A tag identifies your site such as your name or a keyword or a variation of a keyword.  WordPress.com contains a great deal of information on blogging and it is where you will want to tune into form time to time or the latest updates on new WordPress information.

WordPress.org are self hosted, meaning you purchase hosting and a domain.  Through self installation, wordpress can be installed through your hosting solution if your hosting solution provides it, such a fantastico.  A 3 step process allows omission of file configuration, establishing a MySQL database, FTP transfer of the files.  Although to upgrade to either the latest free version or a paid version you will need to know how to do this but it is not hard.

The WordPress 2.3 version has several upgrades that made it super simple to use.  However, before you go and upgrade to the latest 2.6 version, if you are still set on Internet Marketing any product, you should take a look at SemiologicPro.

Semologic Pro is specifically designed to help marketers rank better in search engines such as Google, and Yahoo.  Everything you do you will want tracking, so do your self a favor and get a tracking code form google.  Anyway back to Semiologic Pro, search engine optimization (SEO) is something everyone strives for.  Traffic is a key part of the reason we have all become webmasters.

The better you rank in the search engines the better your traffic, that is if you rank.  The “build it and they will come” theory DOES NOT apply to net marketing.  SEO is keyword organization for the search engine.  The more relevant your content to the searcher, the higher your placement in search results.

There are incredible traffic driving systems that compliment the SEO’ness of this paid version of WordPress.  One of the main features is that when you receive your Semiologic Pro updates automatically and it will include the latest upgrade of WordPress as well.   In fact, it is recommended by Semiologic not to upgrade WordPress until Semiologic Pro upgrades it for you.

It may have been a tough decision to tear down my site a couple of times, fantastico it back up, and upgrade to the paid version, but hind sight being 20/20, I am glad I did.  The regular version comes with several plugin features which power your widgets, those widgets power certain functions which make ease of use a dream.  Up loading plugins can get tedious.  The Semio version comes with about 25 plugins installed.  All you need to do is decide which one you will activate or not.  More on that in another post

All this stuff surely does add up more ways than one.  One of the things I strongly recommend to you, is keep up with the post here.  I am not going  to take you off the beaten path.  Unless we need to of course which I do not see happening.

Now that you have your computer protected your going to need a few things. Have a budget set of about 5K to start.  5K? yes (I would start NOW) it will only go up from here.  I want to get that out of the way right off the bat.  Look, it will not be just one tool that will take you to the top of the heap.  I takes a few.  Not only that, sometime when you get a tool you need another tool to use with it.  Honest!  Pricing on the suggestions below may change at any time.

The first one you will need will be is an auto-responder , an automatic email response system that will allow you to guide your customers through:

• instruction
• new products
• affiliate products
• new updated notices about your services

You will be able to respond to them personally, by name, but you only have to write the email once.  It is a time saving system.  Now that is the autoresponder I use, but there are many more out there. So review before you buy.

1. Aweber or - Email Autoresponer about $120/year.  We will get to the messages that go in there later.

3. An FTP device: much like a domain, but its a tool that allows for quick file transfer between your computer and your domain (file transfer protocol). I use Ipswitch.
4. A wordpress blog platform (free for now) (no down loading needed.  There are two forms of Wordpress.  WordPress.com is not for you if you are going to promote anything for a fee.  WordPress.org is the blog used by marketers.  It is already pre-established inside your Blue hosting package. ( Do not upgrade to the latest version, yet)  We will discuss this in another section
5. I also recommend a password control system such a Roboform or RoboformPro. It can be daunting to keep up with all your passwords.  If you already have a password protected passcard control system on your security suite use it.  However, there is a free trial or you can buy the pro version.  You will need something, just wait and see.

These are the tools you will need to get up and running, and I have used these tools quire a lot, and you will too.

If you select a domain today, let it be your name, just because you think you know the web address you would like for your product, wait until after the course before selecting a product oriented domain.  What you think today might not be what you desire tomorrow.

My name domain here, has never been a thought.  I have had it for some time.  Knowing what I know now, I will have it forever.  So that is a safe domain to purchase.  With Blue Host you will get a domain with a hosting account.  You can host unlimited domains under that account. (No more than ten is recommended by the gurus).

Wordpress can be directly installed for you by clicking on Fantastico.  A genius installation service installs several sequencing programs using databases (MySql).  It something you do not want to do today, lets put it that way.

If your embarking on any project involving Internet Marketing your bound to catch the most virulent form of an internet virus.  Overwhelm-itis is a tough virus to shake.  You get it from thinking you found a solution, realizing you haven’t,  looking for another, deciding to quit, crying ’cause you can’t quit, finding another sure fire solution, and believing again with your credit card one more time. Rinse and Repeat.

It is not your fault.  It really not the marketers fault either, you know the kazillion programs in your document file that your not using.  Many times they have not conveyed well exactly what the program will do for you or I sould say, correctly conveyed .  Other times the material is just out of date because of changes that affect the online marketing world as a whole.  The greatest reason that I can settle on is that this medium is still in the exploration stage.  Look,  the Internet may have been around since 1996 (publicly) but systems to enhance you own empire online have not.

In the beginning it was pages and pages of information that you had to read in order to do one task.  It stayed that way for a while.  But the information that was used then, is forming clear, consise systems now.

I am not going to tell you that it will go away over night because it will not.  Not only that, it will happen again at every phase of the process.  Why?  uh…your NEW!  Once you have done the complete process a time or two and you will find your self saying ah-ha.

Hang in there.  Things are getting much better.

Will it be a cake walk, not hardly, if they swear it is, run quickly, but it is not like it was back in 1996.  How do I know?  I had to accept defeat at that time, but it is coming together, now.  If it gets to the point where you can fill out a form with your name and email address and be in business what will it be worth?…eh….It will still require you to develop skills and perseverance at this point.  You will still need to read some material.

Now think of what you can do when you have the product, and you need to promote it, and you plug in the product to a system that has been well thought out and planned.

In the highly recommended category of Coveted Systems, yes it has it’s own category, are the programs you will want to use when your really ready to punch it.

One more thing, ya gotta be willing to set it up, tear it down, do it again and over and over in order to understand and display your understanding of concepts.  So do not flip out if you see your self tearing down something you had several weeks into….ok…ok, I know.  But when you find a tool that performs about 23 functions that you did seperately, it ill be a no branner to tear it down, and use the new stuff.

Case in point.

Take for example this blog….it started off as a static site…that site the way I was instructed to set it up was impossible to promote.  Why, because I did not know better, then I put up a word press blog.  I had it looking pretty good and going.  Then I accidentally deleted the database, during an up grade. NOT GOOD…

Then, just as I recovered and started working on it, there was a compatibility issue.  You got it, down it went.  This is actually it’s fourth round of set up.  Why, because I am positive the platform I am working on will work for me, and i was willing to stick to it until i got it running.  (I did not talk to it for a while though.- blog-speak).  I know what your thinking, “well this is a word press blog, Tamara”, and you would be right.

But THIS is NOT JUST ANOTHER WORDPRESS BLOG. More on that later (Keep watching for wordpress posts.)
